The Week Frozen Pizza and a Steakhouse Both Made the Cut
Teriyaki tri-tip, stir fry, pork chops, a Friday frozen pizza, and Saturday at Ocean Prime — and the week still closed at a 6,048-calorie deficit.
Not a Menu That Screams “Weight Loss”
If someone had looked at our dinner menu this week, they probably wouldn’t have guessed I was trying to lose weight.
We had teriyaki tri-tip with scalloped potatoes. Chicken stir fry. Pork chops. Frozen pizza. By the end of the week, we were out for dinner at Ocean Prime.
A few years ago, I would’ve approached that week very differently. I’d have been trying to keep my calories under 1,700 a day while eating foods that looked healthier on paper.
Back then, I would’ve looked at this menu and assumed I was doing something wrong.
Instead, I planned around the meals we actually wanted to eat and made the week work as a whole.
“Apparently, eating frozen pizza is less mentally taxing than spending all week trying not to eat frozen pizza.”
Looking back at the numbers, another statistic stood out: I averaged more than 16,000 steps a day. Some of those came from workouts, but a surprising number came from walking Sugar, cooking dinner, running errands, and making repeated laps around the house looking for my phone, keys, or sunglasses.

Looking Ahead
A steakhouse dinner didn’t derail the week. A frozen pizza night didn’t either. What moved the needle was everything in between — the walks, the logging, the not overthinking it.
Fifty weeks to go.
